Dreadmyst returns to Steam after a brief copyright delisting. Here’s what happened, how it was resolved, and what’s new in the latest update.
Dreadmyst launched on January 9 and wasted no time making a strong first impression. In just a short span, the game picked up a healthy number of positive player reviews, earning a Mostly Positive rating on Steam. For a newly released game, especially from a solo developer, that’s no small feat.
However, roughly two weeks after launch, Dreadmyst suddenly disappeared from the platform. The reason? Copyright-related claims that led to a temporary delisting. Fortunately, after some back-and-forth and an investigation, the issue was resolved and the game is now officially back on Steam. So what exactly happened?
Dreadmyst Back on Steam After Brief Delisting
Dreadmyst was temporarily delisted from Steam on January 22, 2026, following copyright claims that alleged the game used assets taken from other titles. The primary complaint came from NCSoft which claimed that certain icons, graphical elements, and sound assets were sourced from Aion. Community members also cited some assets with heavy similarities of those on The Witcher and Lords of the Fallen. According to the developer, these assets were purchased from an online marketplace and were going to be replaced down the line.
During the delisting period, the developer cooperated with the review process, mainly stating that this is a passion project and a non-profit game. To address community concerns, the developer also publicly shared the game’s source code, aiming to clarify that the project did not contain malware or hidden monetization.
After Steam reviewed the situation and the developer worked through the dispute with NCSoft and Gameforge, the issue was resolved. A key factor in the game’s reinstatement was that Dreadmyst launched as a free-to-play non-profit project, with no monetization and no plans to add any in the future. With those clarifications in place, Steam restored Dreadmyst to the storefront on February 5.

Following its return to Steam, Dreadmyst received a content update introducing two new solo dungeons including Desecrated Altar and Salmaster’s Descent, a new contested zone called The Thicket of Wyrms, a Dungeon Speed Run Ladder that tracks dungeon clear times, Spell Scrolls, and additional gameplay updates. With the copyright dispute resolved and new content already live, Dreadmyst is once again available on Steam. This time with greater transparency around its development and future direction.
