In an interview with Vogue Japan, Kojima said he wants to create something that can “only be realized through film.” Nor he or Kojima Productions has announced a release date or confirmed anything else about the anime.

In his recent interview, Kojima said that with the help of A24, he is working on a live-action film adaptation of Death Stranding, revealing that he looks to the likes of The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie that appeal to its original storyline or as a fan service, but sneaked in the fact he is also working on an anime adaptation, without expanding on further details.
As translated by VGC, Kojima said: “I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realized through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”
