Dead as Disco has reached more than 500,000 players since its early access launch in May 2026. To celebrate, developer Brain Jar Games is releasing the biggest update yet for the rhythm beat-’em-up today. The centerpiece of the new update is the new idol antagonist Dahlia, who brings a new story level complete with a multi-stage boss fight.

Additionally, the update introduces two new arenas, eight challenges, five new songs, new enemies, abilities, cosmetics, and dance moves. Dead as Disco combines classic beat-’em-up combat with rhythm gameplay: your strikes, kicks, dodges, and combos are synchronized to the music.

At the heart of the update is the new idol opponent Dahlia, a former pianist and dancer for the band. Her arrival introduces a completely new story level to the game.

The setting is The Nightshade, a blend of a nightclub and a botanical garden. Initially, everything appears colorful, but that changes during the boss fight. Defeating Dahlia unlocks her skill tree for Charlie, which features abilities like Phantom Dance to enhance evasion. This introduces the new status effect “Burn,” which deals damage over time in rhythm with the music.

To match, two new arenas have been added where players can battle Dahlia and other foes. Furthermore, the update brings 8 new challenges, new Dahlia cosmetics, new memorabilia for Charlie, new dance moves, fresh quests, and new dialogue centering around Dahlia.

The Infinite Disco mode—which lets you use your own music and customize combat settings—is also receiving updates. This mode now automatically detects the BPM of songs so enemies can attack perfectly in time. New enemy options (Dahlia, Flamecho, and Smoking Stan) join the mode, alongside a new arena-swap trigger.

Last but not least, 5 new songs have been added: La Pantera – Radio Edit, La Pantera – Boss Remix, Sugar and Spice, Suavemente, and Kumbala. La Pantera serves as Dahlia’s theme, combining Spanish piano with Latin-inspired sounds. Thanks to the radio edit and boss remix, the track can easily be enjoyed outside of her boss fight.

Alongside today’s update, Brain Jar Games announced that Dead as Disco has crossed the 500,000 player mark. The game entered early access in May 2026, achieving this milestone in just about four months.
