Another Fisherman’s Tale is the sequel to the 2019 InnerspaceVR’s A Fisherman’s Tale, A VR game where we took the role of Bob tiny fisherman puppet who live in his own little world, and set out for an unexpected adventure after hearing a storm alert.
This time around we’ll play as Nina, the daughter of the real life Fisherman Bob who’s now grown up is reliving the stories her father told her when she was little. Stories that will be renacted by a wooden doll version of Bob, who can now detach his hands, head and torso from his body.
Thus in the story, which last for about 4 hours, we’ll have to solve puzzle through the interesting use of both headset, body tracking and hand tracking to control the detachable corresponding body parts of Bob. Thus we’ll often have to use the hands to grab objects or remove them, while we place our heads in certain places and or control body in another, also depending on the funny and weird situation our wooden protagonist will find himself. Moreover the hand have even more options, with a pirate hook to use as a grappling hook, and a crab claw to cut things.
Across multiple bizarre locations, ranging from a pirate ship to right under the sea, we’ll not only experience a pretty fun story with make-belief narration, but glimpse into the relationship of father-daughterTina an Bob experienced together, and leaving it to the player to piece things together through the exploration in the real world and partially from the stories, now that Tina is grown up and find herself going through the things in the basement.
All in all a pretty fun adventure, for both kids with a pretty engaging gameplay, but also a more serious story about adulthood and coming of age for a more adult audience, one that ultimately tries to let us think and cherish this kind of fun little moments. All in all a fun title which is not badly priced even for VR, but can be experienced for less than 20€ on keyshops.
Another Fisherman’s Tale is a VR-only first person puzzle platformer. The game has some unconventional mechanics where players can detach the arms from their character and control them or even replace them with new attachments found throughout the world. There’ll be different puzzles to solve with the help of the arms gameplay mechanic and different zones to navigate both on islands and underwater.
