From Cornish pasties to 42 million deaths: Atomfall by the numbers

One year ago, we first stepped into the radioactive, tea-stained ruins of Northern England in Atomfall. Today, the game is a 3.5-million-player phenomenon, and developer Rebellion is celebrating by revealing the numbers behind the post-apocalyptic hit.

From Cornish pasties to 42 million deaths: Atomfall by the numbers

Since its debut on March 27, 2025, Atomfall has evolved far beyond its initial survival-horror roots. Rebellion’s post-nuclear vision of the 1950s captured the imagination of millions, resulting in over 17 million hours of exploration across the Cumbrian countryside.

From the quirky survival mechanics (yes, we’ve collectively consumed over 16 million Cornish pasties) to the brutal tactical combat, the game has matured into a definitive British sci-fi epic, and Rebellion has shared the numbers to prove it in a blog post.

Survival by the Numbers: One Year in the Zone

The stats coming out of the Windscale quarantine zone are staggering. Survivors have collectively spent 16.8 million hours eating Cornish pasties and suffering through 42.3 million deaths.

Additionally, players have eaten 2.2 million slices of cake, found 6.9 million comics, destroyed over 500,000 robots, and spent a whopping 17 million hours in the Quarantine Zone.

Beyond the raw data, the game has fundamentally changed. The Complete Edition launch, alongside the anniversary, brings the Rapid Travel Network, finally solving the long-distance trekking gripes from launch.

If you prefer a challenge, the free update also introduced “Veteran” weapons. These are inspired by Sniper Elite ballistics, making every shot against a B.A.R.D robot feel weighty and lethal.

Rebellion Reveals the Stats Behind Atomfall

The Red Strain: Why Test Site Moriah is a Must-Visit

While the first expansion, Wicked Isle, focused on open-ended exploration, The Red Strain leans hard into sci-fi horror. You’ll spend your time in Scafell Crag chasing down a bizarre quest involving jarred brains.

To survive the labs of Test Site Moriah, you’ll need the new arsenal. Suppressed SMGs allow for stealthy takedowns, while the flamethrower is the only real answer to the crimson-tinted monstrosities lurking in the dark.

It’s a tonal shift that works. The expansion trades the rolling hills for claustrophobic corridors and high-stakes narrative beats that explain the true origin of the Red Strain infection.

Is Atomfall Worth Buying?

Atomfall has evolved significantly since it first landed. With massive AI improvements and the addition of fast travel, the friction of the early days is mostly gone.

Checking a price comparison tool shows you can grab the same experience for much less. It’s the best way to see everything the Lake District has to offer without draining your wallet.
