Konami aims for a yearly Silent Hill release after Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f, but fans worry an annual cycle could hurt quality.
Silent Hill never left the top list but since there’ve been a few great horror game releases in recent years, it may have fallen off the spotlight. However, that can’t be further from the truth now with the back-to-back successful releases of Silent Hill 2 Remake last year and Silent Hill f this year. Fortunately/Unfortunately, whichever way you see it, this resulted in an annual Silent Hill release idea.
Konami’s Motoi Okamoto Aims Silent Hill Yearly Release
Famitsu recently published a quick interview with 171 game creators in Japan about their aspirations for 2026. The list included developers and producers from some of the biggest companies in gaming including Konami’s Noriaki Okamura of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Capcom’s Naoto Oyama of Pragmata, and Koei Tecmo’s Fumihiko Yasuda of Team Ninja.
While the feature is worth reading in full, Konami’s Motoi Okamoto’s answer, producer of the Silent Hill series, caught a lot of attention. When asked for a “keyword” for 2026 or the future, he stated, “Aim for one every year.”
He elaborated that following the release of Silent Hill 2 Remake in 2024 and Silent Hill f in 2025, that the series is back on track. He further explained that they are aiming to release one title per year “including both announced and unannounced titles.”

“Continuing from the release of Silent Hill 2 in October 2024, we were able to deliver Silent Hill f in September 2025, putting the Silent Hill series back on track.

It’s of course exciting how they will take the series to new heights and probably to new locations (considering how f took off), but many are unsure, to put it lightly, with this strategy. A yearly release schedule can absolutely bring in millions, but it can also dilute what makes a franchise special.. And that goes with other industries too.
Call of Duty is a common example in gaming. Despite its success, many feel the annual cycle has led to overexposure and a gradual loss of identity. And in the movie industry, Star Wars seems to have lost some of its prestige with the frequent releases too.
Some of course are for it especially if it means more variety, experimentation, and different studios contributing, and some are not, worried that speed will replace artistry. Time will tell if Konami will be able to break the cycle and still come up with quality even on a yearly basis. Well, there’s probably a remake or remaster in there too.
