The Wandering Village (TWV) is a city-building and simulation title from the team at Stray Fawn Studio, a small indie dev team from Switzerland founded in 2016. The team has also started experimenting with the role of publisher, following the huge success of the Niche and Nimbatus series.
They released TWV in 2022 in Early Access as a new post-apocalyptic city-building adventure. Here, you’ll build your village on the back of a massive creature known as Onbu. The Wandering Village: Version 1.0 Now Available
As announced in May, today finally marks the official launch date of The Wandering Village. The intriguing city-building and management title by Stray Fawn Studio takes us to a post-apocalyptic world. The game leaves Early Access today, 17 July 2025, with the launch of version 1.0.
A launch that was announced on 20 May 2025, accompanied by the official trailer. It shows us the incredible world of TWV, where we’ll explore what’s left of the world after it was overrun by mysterious toxic plants. We’ll build our village on the back of the gigantic Onbu. The game is now available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The Wandering Village: Gameplay and Key Features
After a development period of five years, the team at Stray Fawn Studio celebrates the long-awaited launch of The Wandering Village version 1.0. A development that saw numerous additions to the city-building and sim experience, offering overall:
- Build Your Village: You’ll have to build your village on the back of the giant Onbu. Improve production and manage limited space, but also decide what kind of relationship to build with Onbu—one of trust, or will you just exploit it?
- Discover Biomes & Research New Tech: With Onbu always on the move, you can explore the planet’s various biomes. They offer rare resources but also challenges like different weather conditions and threats.
- Survive the World: In a still-contaminated world, you’ll have to survive dangers like hostile weather, parasites, and poisonous spores by unlocking new or rediscovered ancient technologies. But you’ll have to deal with potential negative outcomes for Onbu or the village itself.
Version 1.0 was preceded by the Story Update in May. This added the biggest update to the game, featuring a journey where you’ll learn more about the infestation that plagued the world. You’ll guide many unique characters in new side-quests and a final showdown. But as the team confirms, development isn’t over yet, with the Onbu Update coming post-launch.
