Leaving Geralt behind is a massive shift for CD Projekt RED, but the anticipation for The Witcher 4 is palpable. We finally know when we’ll get our next look at Project Polaris. During the latest AnsweRED Podcast, developers confirmed the game will appear at Unreal Fest. The event runs from June 16 to 18, 2026.
Whether it’s another in-engine cinematic or actual gameplay remains a mystery. However, the fresh details we just got are incredibly promising, with the focus squarely on Ciri’s unique energy.
Shedding the Armor
Geralt was a walking tank. His combat style was deliberate, heavy, and strictly controlled. Ciri, as a Source, demands a much faster approach. The animation team is entirely overhauling movement to match her agile nature.
Thanks to a cutting-edge motion capture system, she won’t feel stiff or robotic. They’re aiming for raw emotion and fluidity in every step she takes across Kovir. They’ve implemented over eighty distinct animations just for basic movement to eliminate any lingering clunkiness.
They say animation is like the bass in a rock song: until it’s missing, you don’t notice it. Jump in to Episode 26 of AnsweRED Podcast to learn how our animators set the rhythm of the whole game.

Breaking the Old Rules
Combat is getting a massive structural overhaul. You can finally cast spells while on the move. No more stopping dead in your tracks just to throw up a Quen shield. Traversing the map is also evolving, complete with a dedicated jump button and the ability to swim underwater.

A World That Fights Back
Boss fights are receiving special attention, too. CDPR has dedicated animators working exclusively on these massive encounters to ensure the tension never drops.
Outside of combat, the team is hyper-aware of the repetitive NPC models that sometimes broke immersion in The Witcher 3. They are prioritizing massive variety in character models and dynamic social behaviors to make the open world feel truly alive.
The Path of the Source
Upgrading to Unreal Engine 5 allows for physical detail that simply wasn’t possible on the old REDengine. Whether June brings a curated tech demo or our first real look at combat, the direction of the sequel is clear.
CDPR is building a beautiful, reactive continent tailored perfectly to Ciri, and it sounds exactly like the evolution the series needs.
