DOOM The Dark Ages: Sequel-Sized DLC Teased with Major Combat Changes

DOOM: The Dark Ages is about to get a massive expansion that completely flips the script on combat

Ripping through demon hordes with a shield saw is a specific kind of therapy. We’ve all been starving for more ever since the credits rolled. Good news: id Software isn’t just giving us a few extra levels on DOOM: The Dark Ages!

Bigger Than Hell Itself

During a recent Slayers Club livestream, game director Hugo Martin dropped a bombshell. He didn’t mince words about the upcoming, untitled DLC. He straight-up called it “ginormous” and “freaking huge.”

Martin emphasized that the scale is so massive, it essentially feels like a full-blown sequel. It’s not just a recycled map pack. They’re building something that heavily expands the blood-soaked universe.

A Whole New Way to Slay

Size isn’t everything, though. The most exciting tease is how different this expansion plays compared to the base game. The core mechanics are getting completely flipped.

Martin flat-out stated that the DLC plays nothing like the main campaign. They’re introducing entirely new rhythms and pacing. You won’t just be relying on your usual muscle memory to survive.

We do know one specific detail: a new spear weapon. It apparently ties into fresh movement abilities, hinting at possible dashes, leaps, or even teleports to instantly close the gap on your prey.

Staying Sharp While You Wait

The DLC teaser trailer is still a little ways out, so what do we do right now? That’s where the recent Update 3 comes in handy. It’s the perfect training ground to stay warmed up.

The patch overhauled the arena with Ripatorium 2.0. You can now build, customize, and share round-based demon encounters using passcodes. It’s exactly what you need to keep your reflexes sharp before the real challenge drops.

Keep the Super Shotgun Loaded

We might not have a release date yet, but the sheer ambition behind this DLC is enough to keep the hype rolling. id Software clearly knows we want more than just a standard add-on.

Until that trailer finally hits, keep grinding those custom Ripatorium arenas. Those demons aren’t going to chainsaw themselves.
