Fresh off its reveal at The Game Awards 2025, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is already fighting off bad buzz. Director Casey Hudson has personally stepped in to crush rumors that we’d be waiting until the next decade to play his spiritual successor to KOTOR.
Learn everything we know so far about Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic!
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic and the 2030 Panic
When veteran developer Casey Hudson unveils a project, we listen. As the mind behind the original Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, his new studio’s debut is a massive deal.
But the hype train hit a wall almost immediately.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier pointed out that Hudson’s studio, Arcanaut, was only founded in July 2025. Schreier suggested that a 2030 release date was actually an “optimistic guess” for a Triple-A RPG starting from scratch.
Casey Hudson Sets the Record Straight
Thankfully, Hudson wasn’t having it. He took to social media immediately to correct the narrative. Despite the studio being fresh, he promised fans that the timeline isn’t nearly as grim as the analysts predict.
“Don’t worry about the “not till 2030” rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!!”
This is the best news we’ve heard all week. This confirms the game is aiming for a launch securely within this console generation. We are likely looking at a release before 2029.

A True Spiritual Successor to KOTOR
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic isn’t just another cash grab. It is described as a single-player, narrative-driven RPG.
It promises to be a “spiritual successor” to BioWare’s legendary Knights of the Old Republic.
Hudson emphasized that while the original KOTOR was the definitive Star Wars experience of 2003, Arcanaut Studios is building a contemporary vision.
The game will double down on player agency and immersive storytelling. It brings back the choice between light and darkness—the core pillars that defined the classic.
In Conclusion: Is This A New Hope?
“Before 2030” is still a pretty wide window, sure. But Hudson’s direct involvement gives this project weight that other titles lack.
Arcanaut Studios seems determined to capture the magic of the original KOTOR RPG experience. If they can deliver on that promise without making us wait ten years, we are in for a treat.
Do you trust Hudson’s timeline, or do you think the 2030 estimate is more realistic? Tell us your theory in the comments!
