Slime Rancher 2 (SL2) is the second installment in the open-world farming life series by Monomi Park. The Californian indie dev team was founded in 2014 by Nick Popovich and Mike Thomas. They debuted in 2016 with the Early Access of the first Slime Rancher, which was officially released on August 1, 2017.
It received huge success for its colorful adventure in the company of slimes. In 2022, they released the direct sequel that takes us to Rainbow Island. Slime Rancher 2: Version 1.0 Available Today
Today marks the much-anticipated official launch of Slime Rancher 2. The adventure from the Monomi Park team is finally leaving Early Access. The colorful second chapter of the first-person farming life and exploration game with the cute Slimes. It’s finally debuting with version 1.0 today, September 23, 2025.
This launch also marks its availability on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version yet to be announced. The date was pre-announced on July 29, 2025, by the team with the version 1.0 announcement trailer. It is accompanied by a Physical version with artwork by Yusuke Naora.
Slime Rancher 2: Gameplay and Key Features
A much-awaited launch for the second colorful adventure from the Monomi Park team. Celebrating the launch of version 1.0 on the game’s third anniversary since its Early Access debut. SL2 brings you:
- Rainbow Island: With a new colorful location full of secrets, mysteries, and slimes awaiting the young Beatrix LeBeau. Plus tons of new characters, biomes, and game features.
- Lots of new Slimes: The new island obviously brings a new variety of cute Slimes. Like the docile and adorable Cotton Slime, or the Angler Slime with its paralyzing lantern. Along with new Plorts to collect and Gordo variants.
It also welcomes a ton of new gameplay features, mechanics, and of course, tools and structures. Version 1.0 is titled A Hero in Time, and various updates will follow over the next few months. The official launch also brings Achievements and Trophies to PC and consoles.
