Jagex unveils the 2026 Roadmap: Treasure Hunter is gone and Havenhythe arrives

The 25th Anniversary of RuneScape just redefined the game’s future. Jagex officially confirmed the permanent removal of Treasure Hunter following a massive community vote. This kicks off the “Road to Restoration,” a 2026 roadmap featuring the vampiric Havenhythe expansion, a level 110 Hunter cap, and a complete combat overhaul.

RuneScape MTX Update: Treasure Hunter is Dead

Jagex has pulled the plug on Treasure Hunter. After a decisive vote involving nearly 125,000 players, the controversial microtransaction system is officially removed.

This decision eliminates hundreds of gameplay-impacting items from the store immediately. Jagex frames this as the cornerstone of their “Road to Restoration” strategy, prioritizing player integrity over aggressive monetization. While players can use existing stockpiles, the ability to buy power is effectively over.

Havenhythe: The Vampire Expansion

The roadmap centers on Havenhythe, the largest land expansion in the game’s history. Located east of Morytania, this new region introduces a darker, vampiric narrative and scales in difficulty as players venture further east.

Part One launches soon, introducing two new early-game bosses designed to teach mechanics: Silverquill, a “sanguine hedgehog,” and Ivar, the King of Bones (a massive hill giant). These encounters bridge the gap between early-game and endgame bossing.

Combat Modernization & Level 120

February brings a massive overhaul to the core combat engine. Jagex is modernizing Melee, Ranged, and Magic, raising their skill caps to level 120 to match Necromancy.

The update removes the “Threshold” system entirely and reintroduces basic auto-attacks to the action bar. The goal is to reduce friction and “bloat” abilities that confuse new players. Additionally, specific Auras like Berserker and Reckless are being removed to stop players from feeling time-gated by “Aura cooldowns.”

Hunter 110 & Skilling Updates

The Hunter skill gets a major boost to level 110. The update expands the “Big Game Hunter” system where giant creatures now actively hunt the player.

New training methods include “Clockwork Trapping,” allowing players to set mechanical traps and return later—a passive method similar to birdhouses. Rewards include materials for new Tier 85-90 Ranged armor and the highly anticipated Masterwork Ranged Armour.

Avatar Refresh & Housing Changes

The long-awaited Player Avatar Refresh finally lands in April. This update modernizes character models, hairstyles, and outfits, fixing the “shiny” look of modern cosmetics to be more grounded.

Summer 2026 will overhaul Player-Owned Houses (POH). Construction jumps to level 120, introducing a “Recipe System” that lets players craft furniture based on their specific quest and boss achievements. The update aims to make POH a social hub again.

Verdict: A New Era for Gielinor?

Jagex is making bold moves for the 25th Anniversary. By killing Treasure Hunter and making RuneMetrics free for all members, they are removing the “nickel-and-dime” feel that plagued the game for years.

With official API Plugin support confirmed for late 2026 and the return of Leagues II in the Autumn, RuneScape is finally modernizing its engine to compete with its own “Old School” counterpart.

Does the removal of Treasure Hunter convince you to return?
