Perfect Dark Reboot Developers Join 2K Games to Create New Studio Under Take-Two Interactive
Two key leads who previously worked on the Perfect Dark reboot at The Initiative, before Microsoft canceled the game, have joined forces with 2K Games to create a brand-new studio under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella.
Former The Initiative head Darrell Gallagher and creative director Brian Horton have announced they have joined 2K to spearhead an all-new studio.
Revealing his new role as SVP and Studio Head, Gallagher wrote on LinkedIn that he will be leading “an ambitious opportunity unlike anything I’ve taken on before.”
Leaving Joanna Dark Behind
Gallagher and Horton were instrumental figures at The Initiative, leading the creative vision and direction for the now-canceled Perfect Dark reboot, which Microsoft shut down earlier this year.
Neither Gallagher nor Horton has revealed what the new studio is or what they will be working on, but fans will hope they will be reviving the Perfect Dark reboot, which was initially announced in 2020.
A Fresh Start at 2K
Confirming the duo’s new roles, a 2K spokesperson said that while they don’t have “additional details to share at this time,” Gallagher and Horton come “with a combined six decades of AAA game-making experience,” which they hope will lead to success.
With experience on massively popular and successful titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Tomb Raider, Call of Duty, and Destiny, many expect Gallagher and Horton to go straight to work on a AAA title.

The formation of a new 2K Games studio under Take-Two Interactive makes Gallagher’s and Horton’s next project an exciting one to watch. While fans still hope for a Perfect Dark reboot, a fresh new game that is free from the constraints of a legacy IP could appeal to the duo’s creative side, opening up the potential for a groundbreaking new title.
