Nintendo’s next Zelda game is shaping up to be massive. Here’s why Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment could be one of the biggest Switch 2 releases yet.
A New Zelda Experience Arrives for Nintendo Switch 2
Fans won’t have to wait long to return to Hyrule. On November 6, 2025, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing Koei Tecmo’s famous Musou action formula back to the Zelda universe.
According to Nintendo’s official store page, this title is expected to deliver a colossal experience — one of the most ambitious spin-offs the series has ever seen.
A Massive Musou Adventure Worthy of Zelda’s Legacy
Unveiled during the September Nintendo Direct, this new Hyrule Warriors lets players step into the boots of heroes from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom to battle entire armies in vast, dynamic arenas.
The scale of the game matches its ambition. The eShop lists its file size at 42 GB, while Japanese download cards suggest 44 GB. That makes it one of the largest Nintendo Switch 2 titles to date — requiring between 40 and 45 GB of free space for the digital edition.
Physical Edition Includes the Full Game
Players opting for the physical version can breathe easy. Since Nintendo is publishing the title in the West, the game will come fully contained on the cartridge — no partial downloads, no “key cards,” no hidden surprises.
This move stands out at a time when many third-party developers rely on download-only keys, frustrating collectors and players with slower connections. Here, Nintendo keeps things simple: plug it in, and play right away.

A Promising Prelude to Zelda’s Future
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment looks like more than a side story — it’s a bold technical showcase for what the Nintendo Switch 2 can do. Between its massive scale, deeper combat system, and breathtaking reimagining of Hyrule, it could serve as the perfect bridge before the next mainline Zelda adventure.
