Dead Island 2 is the sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island, and the third major installment in the Dead Island series. This action RPG was initially released on April 21, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Epic Games Store.
The game received mainly positive reviews for its open world, over-the-top violence, combat system, and humor. Some of the “not so good” reviews were directed towards graphics, technical issues, and repetitive gameplay which the franchise is dealing with in the patches released in the last year.
After one full year of Epic Games exclusivity, Dead Island 2 is ready to infect and spread goriness on Steam on April 22, 2024. Although the game’s release on the said platform was anticipated as Epic’s exclusive contract usually lasts for just a year, it was announced with little to no press.
But as soon as gamers caught wind, there were some cool promos back in February which included free Steam key for Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition and massive discounts of up to 85% off for Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Retro Revenge.
These promos are no longer live as focus went to the launch of Dead Island 2 second DLC titled SoLA. The first one called Haus was released late last year. Both expansion packs provide an additional 2-3 hours of gameplay each, making the Steam release a great one with that much content available to purchase.
On top of that, the 5th Dead Island 2 quality-of-life patch was just released yesterday. While all these are great news, gamers were a bit disappointed that it still did not include New Game+. Who knows, maybe that’s a surprise part of the Steam release. Highly unlikely but with this much clamor for it, it wouldn’t be long before we see that in one of the future patches.

Since the game has an online multiplayer mode, Steam players can finally get in the action and play alongside or against Epic friends. Unfortunately though, fun stays within PC gamers as the game does not support cross-platform play.
Part of the promotions the franchise did in February was its surprise entry to both Game Pass and Playstation Plus.
Dead Island 2 is currently available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members but for console only as the PC version is still on Epic’s exclusive contract. The game is also available for Playstation Plus Premium members but unlike GP Ultimate where you can get full access to the game, Premium members only have a 2-hour free trial of the game. But free is free so still great news for our PS friends!
