Ninja Gaiden 4 sticks to the series’ roots with fast, brutal combat that actually feels satisfying when you get the timing right. Some levels and enemies start to feel repetitive, and the story doesn’t really grab you, but if you just want solid hack‑and‑slash action, it does the job.

From a few glances at the gameplay, I think I might enjoy Ninja Gaiden 4 more than the predecessors. There's two protagonists, Ryu with the classic moveset and Yakumo with entirely new techniques that look completely different from Ryu's ones. Ninja Gaiden 4 takes us to a futuristic Tokyo, we'll just have to wait and see how well the setting and story fit within the franchise.
