A strange event turns anyone gazing out the window into monstrous creatures. Survivors scavenge a single apartment building for supplies and weapons. Every decision matters as you face humans, other strange beings, and unspeakable horrors while avoiding the windows.

• Find and shelter other strange survivors in your apartment, working with them to solve the mystery.
• Face over 150 crafted creatures in turn-based combat using makeshift weapons and items found around the building.
• Organize perilous journeys for resources, then head back home to relax, create, and connect with your neighbors.
• Engage in 10-12 hours of gameplay, confront major bosses, forge friendships, and achieve one of various story conclusions.

Look Outside is genuinely one of the scariest games I’ve played since P.T., and that’s an incredibly high bar to clear.

The vast majority of the game’s shortcomings came down to glitches that can both end up fixed by the time I finish this sentence, and didn’t ruin the experience too much anyway. Possibly the worst part is knowing that there are so many vagaries in the game that you start to wonder if those “glitches” are intentional. It’s a heck of a game, a darn good horror game, and one twisted, fantastic experience. So get out of the apartment, make friends with some Lovecraftian monsters, and don’t forget to look outside.

One thing you could never criticise about Coulombe’s work is that he has a great eye for detail and understanding about what “art” means in the context of video games. It’s the clever use of interactivity, the playful subversions of expectation, and freeform creativity that ensures that Look Outside will remain with you, coiled in your mind and puzzling you long after the computer’s put in rest mode.
