Dreadmyst Delisted on Steam Again After Dev Steps Away from Development
Dreadmyst is no longer on Steam and probably won’t be back as the solo dev steps away from development.
Dreadmyst must have the most interesting launch, not just for an MMO game but in general, as it managed to release, get delisted, re-listed, and finally delisted again in just under 2 months. And this time, it doesn’t look like it’s coming back.
Dreadmyst is Effectively Shutting Down
Dreadmyst was a promising MMO which had a chance to make it big. The game was fun but pretty much everything around it was, well, interesting for lack of a better term.
The game is a free online RPG which was made by a solo dev. Its debut went great, gaining a solid following and many great reviews. However, the first controversy came when assets from other games were found in Dreadmyst. In just under 2 weeks from launch, it got delisted from Steam.
An investigation was made and the game survived. It got re-listed on Steam. However, backlash followed and the dev found himself in heated arguments across many platforms including the game’s Discord server. Then there’s also that “incident” where Gold was being sold before the server went live.
And then today came. The latest and probably the last update on Dreadmyst’s Steam page announced that the dev is stepping away from development and that it will be removed from the Steam store. He mentioned though that if you already have the game, nothing changes.
Since the game is genuinely fun, many gamers found the news unfortunate. But also not surprising. Regardless of Dreamyst’s journey in controversy, the genre is a hard arena for any new release.
