Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has officially surpassed 5 million copies sold! In celebration and a show of gratitude, Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive will be issuing a free update, packed with new content and surprises.

There is no question that Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a tight contender for the Game of the Year 2025. It launched on April 24, 2025 and has since then continuously impressed every new gamer who jumped into it. It is such a masterpiece that everyone is excited for what’s next.

And today, the game’s creative director Guillaume Broche teased the next major update. And we’re not only getting an expansion by the way, we’re getting it for free!

   

In an interview with Polygon, Broche mentioned that the response to the game was incredible and that the team is so grateful that they’re currently developing a free major update that will feature a new environment, new enemies, new boss battles, new costumes, and also more localizations, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.

Here is the overview of the free major update:

  • A new, playable environment, taking the characters of Expedition 33 to a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover. Challenging, new boss battles for late-game players to overcome.
  • New costumes for each member of the Expedition, giving even more customization options for players throughout their adventure.
  • New text and UI game localizations into Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian, bringing the total number of supported languages to 19.
  • Plus, even more surprises fans can look forward to.

Alongside the announcement, the team also released a new artwork which shows children’s toys in the background and a closer image of a child sketch which seems to be Esquie and Verso. Is it the childhood story of these two?

If that’s not great enough news, the update will also include PC handheld compatibility according to producer Francois Meurisse. No release date was revealed but Meurisse said that it will be in the “upcoming months.” Vague but how can we complain? It’s real and it’s free!
