Anomaly: Warzone Earth is a sci-fi strategy reverse tower defense game developed by 11-bit studios. Humanity is under siege from an alien onslaught. They have captured the world’s major cities, building huge turrets that destroy everything in their path. Lead an armored squad through the streets of Baghdad, Tokyo, etc., plan which route to take and units to use, then the commander can use special abilities to support the squad in its mission.

• Gather resources to buy new units and upgrade your squad during a battle.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth’s fresh perspective on the traditional tower defense setup makes for an exciting entry in the genre, and exploring familiar gameplay from an entirely different angle makes the action even more exciting. It’s surprising how much of a difference a few simple tweaks can make toward revitalizing a genre that has long grown stale for some players. Being able to think strategically while under fire is a must in Anomaly: Warzone Earth, and the many twists that pop up along the winding road to victory make this game a winner.

I was a little skeptical of a tower defense game in which you have little control over your units (especially having recently reviewed Defenders of Ardania), but I soon found myself enjoying the strategic challenge presented by the game. Anyone who enjoys a game that flexes your brain as much as your reflexes should give this game a try.

Even if you don’t normally play strategy games l encourage you to at least try the demo for Anomaly Warzone Earth. It might look like another Command & Conquer or random tower defense game on the surface but there is something truly original, highly challenging, and compulsively addicting with this game. And even if you already own this game on PC or iOS, I daresay the Tactical Trials is worth a double-dip. At only 800 MS points, this is the best $10 you’ll spend in the Xbox Arcade this month.
