Assassin’s Creed Shadows Reaches 5 Million Players Since Launch

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now surpassed 5 million players across PC and consoles since the action-adventure game’s launch in March. The developer has also confirmed the game’s first expansion, Claws of Awaji, will launch by the end of September 2025.


Released on March 20, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has consistently performed, becoming the second-best-selling game day one in the franchise’s history.

Ubisoft confirmed the game had now reached 5 million players in an update on X, where it shared players have also contributed to billions of stealth kills and petted millions of animals.

What Is Driving Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Success?

Since its launch in March, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been consistently praised for its unique open-world Feudal Japan setting, which offers visually spectacular locations to explore.

Shadows’ refined parkour system also complements the game’s stealth gameplay, with players better able to choose how they approach missions compared to previous titles in the series.

With two main protagonists, players can also switch up their playstyle, deciding to employ caution or all-out aggression depending on the circumstance.

There’s also a sense that Ubisoft finally got base-building right in Shadows. Although previous titles, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, have had the feature, it is more refined in Shadows, offering more customization and control over recruitment, training, and decoration.

Ubisoft acknowledged the game’s milestones with a tweet, revealing Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now hit 5 million players, with players travelling 1 billion km, petting 28 million animals, and executing 2 billion stealth kills.

Going forward, Ubisoft has already announced the Shadows roadmap with the game’s first expansion, Claws of Awaji, due out by September 30, 2025.
