While cloud gaming stays on the supported Game Pass tiers, by November, access will be limited to a few hours per month. Ultimate will have a total of 15 hours, Premium will have 10 hours, and Essential gets 5 hours. So basically, if you are on Ultimate paying $23 a month and use cloud gaming every day, you have 30 minutes of playtime per day. Yep, it is not a lot, especially coming from an unlimited cloud gaming setup.
According to Microsoft’s official announcement, this change is due to the increase of costs in providing the service as more people use it and play for longer. In order to sustain its performance and reliability, Microsoft must continue to invest in the service.
A Standalone Product
Now, while the limits are final, it doesn’t mean subscribers are locked out from playing for longer. The Xbox store will offer additional cloud playtime for purchase, and these options will be available to non-Game Pass members as well. Basically, cloud gaming is setting up to be its own product by itself.
Players who do not have an active Game Pass subscription can purchase cloud playtime hours in the store and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. It is worth noting that Microsoft has not yet revealed the exact pricing for these additional hours, though they plan to share those details before the changes take effect.
Game Pass Cloud Limites Regional Exceptions
In the announcement, there was no mention of specific countries, so it is safe to say this policy is effective worldwide.
