The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is officially happening and from what we’ve seen so far, this isn’t a simple remaster or another port. Nintendo is giving the beloved classic a full remake, rebuilt to take advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2’s hardware. For longtime Zelda fans, it’s the announcement they’ve been hoping to hear for years.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Announced
The Nintendo Direct gave one hell of a show yesterday with a massive lineup of games. One that many were waiting to see, thanks to a string of online leaks, is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Two months ago, well-known insider Nate the Hate accurately leaked that Ocarina of Time would be revealed during this month’s Nintendo Direct. He also claimed that the project would be more than a visual touch-up or reimagining, describing it as a complete rebuilding of the original game from the ground up. And based on the teaser shown during the presentation, he was right on the money.
The remake has been the subject of rumors for quite some time, with fans patiently hoping Nintendo would eventually revisit one of the most influential games ever made. Ever since reports of the project began circulating, many have been eager to see how the legendary adventure would look and feel when rebuilt using modern technology.
Originally released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most important games in Nintendo’s history. Over the years, it was ported to several platforms including the Wii and 3DS. The game is also currently playable on Nintendo Switch through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack retro library.
Apart from the reveal itself which was accompanied by an almost two-minute trailer, Nintendo did not share more about the game. No exact release date was given but a broad launch window of 2026 was shown at the end of the footage. That window makes Nate the Hate’s leak three-for-three correct.
As for the remake itself, there isn’t much else to go on just yet. Until Nintendo shares more, fans can at least enjoy that first look at Young Link and imagine what the rest of this rebuilt adventure has in store.
