Maverick Games reveals CLUTCH, an open-world narrative driving game with deep customization and action elements coming in Spring 2027.

Maverick Games has officially announced their debut project and it is stepping completely outside the traditional racing boundaries with CLUTCH. This upcoming release is described as a cinematic, open-world, narrative-driven driving game. Instead of focusing solely on track positions and lap times, the studio is crafting an experience that fuses high-stakes storytelling with arcade action.

CLUTCH Combines Street Racing, Storytelling, and Action

CLUTCH is a story about two siblings competing in the R1K Racing Series, a prestigious championship that brings together some of the world’s best drivers. Alongside the professional racing scene, players will also become involved with an underground street racing group known as The Midnight Collective.

The reveal also confirmed a number of gameplay elements that go beyond traditional racing. Bank heists, police pursuits, and special gadgets will all play a role in the experience. One of those gadgets is a grappling hook which can be used to navigate the world and even help evade law enforcement during high-speed chases.

CLUTCH Deep Customization and Next-Gen Detail

Maverick Games is placing a massive emphasis on visual authenticity claiming the in-game car models feature a level of accuracy and detail rarely seen in the genre. Players will be able to modify exterior components such as wheels, sideskirts, spoilers, and underglow lighting.

The attention to detail becomes even more prominent inside the cabin. Interior customization will allow players to completely overhaul their dashboards and cockpits. Players can swap out seats and steering wheels, and place small personal objects around the interior, from air fresheners to custom cup holders. So far, the visuals look good. As for the story, we hope it lands.

While the game was initially teased as a Forza Horizon 6 challenger, the more details they shared, the more people feel that it’s in a completely different path. Whether that can can give them a spot in the genre, we won’t know until Spring 2027 when it’s scheduled to release for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
