Fight Sega icons in the Shinobi: Art of Vengeance 1.2 update [Update]

Key Takeaways: The Quick Answer

  • Patch 1.2 drops simultaneously, adding a punishing Hardcore Mode and much-needed quality-of-life UI tweaks for free.
  • While Yakuza and Golden Axe get dedicated platforming stages, Sonic’s Green Hill Zone is restricted entirely to the Eggman boss encounter.

Sega’s Heaviest Hitters Enter the Fray

Sega and Lizardcube are pulling us back in with an expansion nobody saw coming for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance

The Sega Villains DLC pits Joe Musashi against interdimensional chaos. Instead of standard ninja clans, we are fighting three massive icons: Goro Majima, Dr. Eggman, and Death Adder.

Boss Fights That Demand Perfection

These aren’t just cosmetic cameos. All three bosses pack a massive punch, complete with signature ultimate moves that will test every parry and dodge you’ve mastered.

Majima swarms you with clones, while Death Adder locks down the screen with devastating magic. Beating them unlocks three new Ninpos based on their kits.

Instead of paying a standard $9.99 storefront markup for simple costumes, this expansion delivers genuine mechanical depth. You also get three new skins and six remixed audio tracks.

Five New Stages—But Sonic Gets Shortchanged

We get five new stages total, but the distribution is slightly uneven. The Yakuza and Golden Axe levels are pure platforming bliss, loaded with background Easter eggs.

You need your entire toolkit to survive the Cabaret club neon signs and broody fantasy landscapes. There is, however, a glaring omission here.

Dr. Eggman’s two-part boss fight is genuinely incredible. Sadly, Green Hill Zone is just window dressing, meaning we don’t get a dedicated Sonic platforming stage to match the others.

Free Patch 1.2 Brings Hardcore Mode

You don’t need to buy the DLC to get fresh content today. The free Version 1.2 update brings a punishing Hardcore Mode for absolute masochists.

Expect completely overhauled boss attack patterns, scarce healing, and relentless enemy placement. You have to start a brand new save file to even attempt it.

According to the official patch notes, Sega also threw in essential quality-of-life tweaks. You can finally customize camera shake, hit flash, and character outlines.

They also fixed that annoying map misalignment bug. If this really is the final send-off for Art of Vengeance, Lizardcube made sure it goes out swinging.
