Xbox Game Pass Premium Gets 2 New Games Today
Yesterday’s wave 2 announcement, although it did not include a lot of day-ones (in fact, just one with Nova Roma), was packed with incredible games. And two of them were added to the Premium tier today.
Ultimate and PC Game Pass members have been enjoying both South of Midnight and The Alters since they launched, being a day-one addition to the service. And after almost a year of waiting, Premium members can finally get to experience two very very solid narratives.
2025 was an exceptional year for releases and these two managed to snag some spotlight. So much so that they also earned some nominations across different events including The Game Awards. They are two different games but both offer experiences worth your time.
South of Midnight isn’t great with combat since it’s quite repetitive but pretty much every aspect of the game whether it be the story, the visuals, the music, they’re all spot on. There’s a feature where you can switch off the combat entirely though but maybe before you do that, you can also try tweaking it to make it more difficult. Max everything!
As for The Alters, it’s also got an amazing premise. While many people enjoyed it, it may also be underrated for what it truly is. The mystery, the time distortions, the anomalies, everything about it will keep you engaged. Don’t get fooled by the cover art (sorry for those who like it!).
South of Midnight drops you into a haunting alternate-history Britain after the Windscale disaster, where the once-peaceful countryside has collapsed into a lawless and dangerous wasteland filled with hostile survivors and eerie, unexplained phenomena. As you explore ruined villages, abandoned bunkers, caves, and scattered remnants of civilization, you’ll need to scavenge for supplies and vital resources to craft tools, weapons, and survival essentials. Combat is tense and scrappy, mixing firearms with improvised weapons and brutal hand-to-hand encounters, all while you manage stamina and accuracy under pressure.
The Alters throws you back into the beautifully twisted world of Random, where you follow Queen Aleksandra on a frantic, fate-defying journey through surreal realms shaped by ancient evil. With her trusty die companion Fortune at her side, she battles uncanny monsters and forgotten magic using a mix of four distinct weapons, powerful card abilities, and relic-based upgrades that let you build wildly different playstyles. Every encounter feels unpredictable thanks to Fortune’s dice rolls, while the game layers in deep customization through over 100 relics and 15 card powers, all leading toward intense showdowns against demanding world bosses.
