The countdown is on for Marathon, the newest online PvP shooter in the market which has had a massive leadup to this date. Bungie is stepping back into the competitive arena with another major release, and today will show how the studio’s latest project stands among the many multiplayer titles that launched before it. For players planning to jump in as soon as servers go live, there are a few things to prepare ahead of time.

 

Marathon Pre-Launch Preparation

Marathon officially launches today, March 5, 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC through Steam. The release marks Bungie’s return to a competitive PvP experience built around squad-based extraction gameplay and persistent progression.

The launch follows the recent Server Slam event, where thousands of players were able to jump in early to test gameplay systems and help Bungie stress-test its online infrastructure. The event offered a preview of the core mechanics and gave the developers valuable feedback ahead of the full release.

With launch day here, preloading is now available across all platforms so players can be ready as soon as servers go live. The download sizes are relatively modest by modern standards.

The game unlocks simultaneously worldwide at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT, meaning players across regions will enter the servers at the same time. Bungie seems to have everything in order but they shared that login queues can still happen.

The wait is definitely not a fun part but thinking about the rewards may make it worthwhile. Bungie has confirmed that Twitch Drops will be active during launch streams on Twitch. There will be six rewards available including a 2 weapon sticker, Twitch sponsored kit, profile emblem, profile background, and a weapon skin.

Players who participated in the Server Slam will need to redownload the game on their platform as the launch version includes Marathon’s full progression, a new Runner shell, Outpost and more that were not present during the test period.

As for the Server Slam rewards themselves, Bungie has confirmed they will begin rolling out starting today. Some may get it as soon as they login while others may get it an hour later. But rest assured that players will get it. Those who qualify will need to log into the game during Season 1 in order to receive those rewards.

With the servers about to open and players across the world preparing to drop in, launch day for Marathon marks the beginning of Bungie’s newest multiplayer chapter. Hopefully, it survives the arena and holds a better fate than recent live service game releases.
