The developers just revealed the secret sauce behind ARC Raiders‘ massive retention numbers, and it’s not just about gunplay. If you felt like your lobbies were perfectly tuned to your mood lately, it wasn’t an accident. The game now actively tracks how you play to decide who you play with.

ARC Raiders “Aggression” Matchmaking

Most shooters rely strictly on Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM), a system that often frustrates casual players by turning every match into a sweat-fest. CEO Patrick Söderlund confirmed to GamesBeat that ARC Raiders takes a smarter approach.

While skill remains the primary factor, the game now analyzes your “aggression profile.” If you prefer looting quietly and avoiding conflict (PvE focus), the system groups you with similar players. Conversely, if you hunt other players (PvP focus), you get dropped into lobbies with other trigger-happy raiders.

How the Game Prioritizes Matches

Söderlund broke down the exact hierarchy the matchmaking algorithm follows. It filters players in a specific order to ensure match quality doesn’t drop just to fit a playstyle:

  1. Skill Level: The baseline competency check.
  2. Squad Size: Solos, Duos, or Trios remain separated.
  3. PvP/PvE Preference: The new layer that analyzes your combat history.

This creates a “soft separation” of the player base. It prevents the common extraction shooter problem where a peaceful squad looking for scrap gets steamrolled by a team strictly hunting for kills.

The Shooter’s Retention Stats

The results of this system speak for themselves. Since its release in late 2025, ARC Raiders has retained a staggering 91% of its player base. Compare that to the drop-off seen in competitors like Battlefield 6, which lost 85% of players in the same timeframe, and the impact is clear.

By respecting how players want to interact with the world—rather than forcing a single playstyle—the studio has cracked the code on live-service longevity.

Verdict: Is ARC Raiders Anti-Greafing measure Valid?

If you avoided extraction shooters because of the “griefer” mentality often found in the genre, ARC Raiders is the fix you’ve been waiting for. The aggression-based matchmaking removes the frustration of unfair engagements, making it one of the most accessible titles in the genre right now.

With massive player retention and a developer that actively iterates on matchmaking logic to protect fun, this is a safe investment of your time and money.

Have you noticed your lobbies changing depending on how aggressive you play?
