Pocketpair and Frontside 180 have finally announced the release date for the highly anticipated Metroidvania, Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse. The action roguelike will launch for PC, Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5 on March 5, 2026.
Combining Metroidvania exploration with the relentless challenge of rougelite gameplay, Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse will officially launch on March 5 for PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Switch.
Announced with a new trailer, the indie game is in development at Frontside 180 and is being published by Pocketpair’s Publishing division, the developer of Palworld.
Never Grave’s Gameplay: The Possession Mechanic
In Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse, players do not control the Witch, but a cursed hat that can possess defeated enemies to use their abilities.
Possession involves much more than combat. It can also solve puzzles. Choosing which enemies to possess directly influences progression, allowing players to create their own journeys.
The story focuses on a young witch, who has her soul stolen and is cursed to wander the world, unable to die. To break the curse, players will delve into procedurally generated dungeons, fight powerful bosses, and experiment with an expansive skill tree that allows for hundreds of unique builds.
Building and Co-op
Putting a twist on the traditional roguelite genre, at the end of each run, players can use materials collected to rebuild a ruined village, constructing new facilities, producing items, earning money, and preparing for the next run.
For those who prefer to share the challenge, the platformer features four-player online co-op, allowing friends to strategize and work together to conquer dungeons.
Pre-order and Final Development Details
Developer Frontside 180 is “working hard on the final stages of development” as it enters the final push towards the confirmed Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse release date on March 5, 2026.
Pre-orders are not yet available for the 2D action roguelite. However, Frontside 180 and Pocketpair are promising more details and information in the coming weeks before the game’s launch.
