Warner Bros. Discovery, the newly-merged company of Discovery and WarnerMedia, is looking to overhaul everything related to DC Entertainment, Variety revealed in its exclusive report. This includes video games about DC Comics heroes/characters.
Sources on the ground revealed to Variety that the company feels that iconic DC characters could be used to their full potential. While the Batman: Arkham games have been positively received by gamers, there are other characters out there that could also be as successful as the franchise. One example mentioned was Superman, who’s “been left to languish and need to be revitalized.”
Projects with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn or Todd Phillips’ Joker could also become successful.
With the merger in place, the company believes that DC must put more work in its approach to comic book fare, and that includes boosting gaming. This could mean that they will also be producing DC games in a faster manner.
And speaking of DC games, several games are currently in the works. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League will be launching in 2023 and is being developed by Rocksteady Studios. Gotham Knights, which features Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood, is set to release October 25th of this year. There’s also a Wonder Woman game which is being developed by Monolith and was teased at the 2021 Games Awards, but doesn’t have a release date yet.
