There are plenty of players who only recently played through Trails of Cold Steel‘s first release and may not be swayed to do so again by the promise of better graphics, particularly given the polish already present on its initial launch. But the additional voiced dialog and improved performance due to better hardware can’t be understated. If the original release was already a modern classic, then this improved version is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a sprawling epic of a game. With satisfying combat, incredibly well defined characters, and enough story to satisfy the most demanding visual novel fan, Trails of Cold Steel has earned its place in the JRPG Hall of Fame. It’s time to call it like it is: Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel is a classic.

Overall, this is one of those game series that I missed completely, but it is such a good game series and I am glad they are launching it on new gen consoles. The amount of good RPGs out there today is dwindling, however, you can always count on some good JRPGs to be out there ripe for the picking.
