Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 developer The Chinese Room has laid off staff ahead of the RPG’s October release date. The number of employees affected is unknown, and the game remains on course to launch on time for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The Chinese Room, developer of the upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, has laid off an unknown number of staff. Publisher Paradox Interactive confirmed the layoffs but says the game will still launch in October across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
First announced in 2019 by Paradox, Bloodlines 2 has been hit with multiple delays and changed developer in 2021 when The Chinese Room took over from Hardsuit Labs. The action RPG is now on course for a release in October 2025.

Why Did The Chinese Room Lay Off Staff?
Spotted by Game Developer, a number of former staff announced a “round of layoffs” at Sumo Group on LinkedIn, the parent company of The Chinese Room. In June 2024, Sumo laid off almost 15% of its employees. In February this year, CEO Carl Cavers announced the company will focus “on development services for partners” as it pivots away from original IPs.
The Chinese Room and Sumo Group have not officially announced the layoffs, but Paradox has confirmed to PC Gamer what it calls “staffing changes” and said it wishes everyone affected “the best of luck.”
A Troubled Development Timeline
Since Paradox revealed Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 in 2019, the game has suffered from a series of delays in 2020 and 2021 when an indefinite delay was announced after original developer Hardsuit Labs left the project. The Chinese Room was eventually revealed as the new developer in 2023.
After further delays in 2024 and early 2025, an October 2025 launch date was confirmed back in March. With no exact release date and staff layoffs, it would not surprise anyone if the game receives another delay until 2026.
What’s Next for Bloodlines 2?
Despite the recent staffing cuts at The Chinese Room, publisher Paradox Interactive has confirmed Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will launch in October 2025 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
Fans of the tabletop and video game series will hope Bloodlines 2 doesn’t see another delay. Unfortunately, only time will tell if the new launch window is met.
Conclusion
The Chinese Room has suffered a round of layoffs affecting an unknown number of staff but its upcoming action RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is still on course to launch in October 2025. I expect the worst with this game. It's gona be a woke nightmare that's gona tank yet another studio.
Ive been waiting on this game for several years and now its almost here. However it's quite worrying that they layed off some employees now. I really really hope that this wont effect how the game will be and that the game will still be released on time and have good quality.
