The Finals: New Kernel Anti-Cheat Confirmed, But with Steam OS Support
As confirmed at the launch of the new Season 7 of The Finals on June 12th, the Embark Studios team brings more news. With Patch 7.3 introducing the new Blast Off mode, destruction, and balancing changes. They also left a special note regarding Security. Confirming the decision to move more towards Kernel-level Anticheat.
A type of anti-cheat that operates at the Kernel level on Windows. Therefore, it’s capable of identifying more sophisticated cheats, but often excludes other incompatible operating systems like Linux. But the team confirms that The Finals will continue to support SteamOS, Proton, Wine, and Steam Deck. Reaffirming that they have been working together with CodeWeavers since Season 5.
The Finals – What’s New in Version 7.3
A very important decision for The Finals, for sure. But the team, while not officially supporting Linux, is aware of the slice of players active on Steam Deck. Especially with the ever-growing compatibility of Steam OS. Meanwhile, among the new features of Version 7.3, we have:
- BLAST OFF! : New limited-time mode with low gravity and rocket launchers. Featuring mid-air combat and pixelated explosions.
- Improved Destructibility: The destruction physics have been substantially improved on various maps. With more realistic effects, also making the maps more dynamic and interesting.
- Balancing: Various balance changes with a nerf to the H+ Infuser and some buffs to the Healing Emitter. But also for weapons with reductions or increases in equip time.
In addition to the new Twitch Drops, which allow fans to get the new Broadcast Blaze set by watching streams from channels with drops enabled. Also accompanied by the ImpOscar sticker.
