After 15 long years, Skate is finally back. And this launch is special because it’s not just releasing on PC, Playstation consoles, and Xbox consoles after years of waiting, but it is doing so as a free-to-play game. Well at least on its early access version. Here’s everything you need to know for the launch and beyond.
Skate. Early Access Launches Today For Free
Skate. officially releases today, September 16th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Players can already preload the game and it will unlock at 10AM PT / 6PM BST / 7PM CEST.
If you joined the earlier playtest, you’ll notice plenty of bugs have already been resolved, along with improvements on how XPs are earned. In addition, Insider Rewards are rolling out so make sure to log into the account you used for the playtest to claim your exclusive Insider deck and deck stickers.
Since the game is still on early access, there are some issues that the team are still working on. The full 0.27.7 Patch notes are detailed here so if you encounter something else, contact EA or the Skate team. Every bit of feedback helps, and with progress moving quickly, a full release hopefully might not be too far off.
But while we wait for that, we can look forward to three major updates already. The first one will launch on October 21st with 2 season events, skate pass, and some quality of life improvement. Next will be on December 21st and will include a new co-op game mode, 2 season events, party voice chat, new gameplay tricks, and replay editor improvements.
The third one does not have a date yet but EA announced that it will include leaderboards, open world collectables, player created parts, new game modes, and more gameplay tricks.
While it’s great news that PC is now an official launch platform for Skate, it is important to note that the early access version does not support keyboard and mouse yet. You’ll still need a controller to play the game. And unfortunately for Steam Deck users, it is currently not supported also.
