EA Cancels New Titanfall Game After Reportedly Laying Off 300 Staff
EA has reportedly canceled a new Titanfall game after the publisher lays off between 300 and 400 staff. Around 100 employees cut is said to be at Apex Legends and Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment.
According to industry insiders, EA has laid off over 300 staff, including around 100 at Respawn Entertainment, choosing to cancel an upcoming new Titanfall game that was reportedly in development.
As reported by Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, a source “familiar with the cuts” has said EA had let go between 300-400 staff as the gaming giant looks to re-strategize.
What Was the Canceled Titanfall Project?
Responding to the report, Respawn Entertainment posted a statement on its social media, confirming there had been “targeted team adjustments” and that the studio had also “made the decision to step away” from two projects early in development.
One of those projects, Bloomberg says, was an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, codenamed “R7.” The game was confirmed to be in early development in 2024 and was being led by Steve Fukuda, the director of Titanfall 1 and Titanfall 2.

EA’s Latest Wave of Layoffs
EA has now laid off over 1,800 employees since March 2023 and canceled multiple projects, including a Mandalorian game that was supposedly in development at Respawn and Titanfall Legends, and a Titanfall and Apex Legends crossover.
The latest cuts, EA told Bloomberg, are part of the company’s “continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities.” The publisher says the move “more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth.”
