The Warlock joins the ranks of Sanctuary across three different eras of Diablo gameplay

The Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight has redefined Sanctuary for 2026. Blizzard is leaning hard into the dark arts, centering its roadmap on the Warlock—a class hitting three different games simultaneously.

The series is pivoting back toward sacrificial power and demon-summoning mechanics.

Three Games, One New Class

Warlocks are no longer a theory for Diablo 4 players, but the announcement went much further. The class is arriving in Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal later this year, but it is actually playable in Diablo 2: Resurrected right now.

This marks a rare moment where a single character archetype defines the strategy for the entire franchise across mobile, PC, and consoles.

Diablo 2: Resurrected Gets a Modern Injection

The Reign of the Warlock DLC is a significant departure for the 2021 remake. It adds a class that was never part of the original 2000 release.

For $24.99, players can now use demon-summoning and “devouring” mechanics to break the long-standing meta of the classic title. Beyond the combat, the update introduces community loot filters and dedicated stash tabs for materials and gems.

Terror Zones are also seeing a refresh. High-level players will now be hunted by Heralds of Terror on Hell difficulty. Defeating these bosses unlocks access to the Colossal Ancients, providing a new endgame peak for veteran characters.

The addition of “The Chronicle” item tracker also aims to simplify the inventory management that has defined the game for decades.

Diablo 4 Reshapes the Skill Tree

Diablo 4 is moving away from what many fans called “skill twigs.”

The Lord of Hatred expansion, launching April 28, brings a total overhaul to the skill tree system for every player. This applies even if you don’t buy the DLC. The focus is on transformative choices, like turning a Sorcerer’s Hydra into a frost-flinging turret or a series of localized explosions.

New endgame systems like “War Plans” allow for a customized playlist of activities. Players can chain together The Pit, Helltides, and Nightmare Dungeons into a single, seamless session.

A Fresh Look for Diablo Immortal

This June, the Warlock brings its sacrificial blade to mobile alongside a massive world expansion.

The city of Lut Gholein returns, featuring two distinct districts inspired by real-world Moroccan architecture. Andariel, the Maiden of Anguish, is also returning as a central antagonist with a redesigned, sadistic aesthetic.

The 2026 roadmap promises quarterly updates, including new subzones and a fresh rotation of monsters to keep the grind fresh.

In Conclusion: Darker Days Ahead in Sanctuary

Integrating a new class across three separate titles suggests a more cohesive direction for Diablo lore. With the Lord of Hatred expansion arriving in April and the Warlock already live in the classic remake, the focus is shifting toward deep build customization.

The presentation ended with a nod to BlizzCon in September, hinting that the 30th-anniversary surprises aren’t over yet.
