Cyberpunk 2077 Surpasses 35 Million Copies Sold, Confirms CD Projekt Red
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) has officially confirmed that sci-fi action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 35 million copies sold worldwide, becoming the studio’s main source of revenue.
This latest sales milestone for Cyberpunk 2077, announced in CD Projekt Red’s recent quarterly financial results, is a significant achievement for one of the most troubled AAA launches in recent memory.
Speaking to investors, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz revealed the RPG is now the company’s “main source of revenue,” and that has outperformed the studio’s other titles.
Cyberpunk 2077 Outpaces The Witcher 3 Sales
After reaching the 35 million copies sold milestone, Nielubowicz announced it was “a better result than The Witcher 3 was able to achieve in the same post-release timeframe.”
The success of Cyberpunk 2077 demonstrates the significant effort the company invested in the IP after its launch, addressing critical bugs and performance issues that led to the game’s removal from the PlayStation Store, and fans and critics to universally criticize it.

The Role of Phantom Liberty and 2.0
Much of Cyberpunk 2077’s resurgence is down to its highly praised Phantom Liberty DLC, which launched a few days after the 2.0 update, collectively reversing the game’s reputation and attracting millions of returning and new players.
While 2.0 overhauled many in-game systems, such as vehicle combat, stamina, weapons, and police AI, Phantom Liberty added all-new content, like weapons, clothing, and the Relic skill tree.
CDPR now considers the game complete, only releasing minor fixes and updates, completely turning the game around into something the studio and fans are proud of.
Charting the Future for Night City
The 35 million sales figure allows CD Projekt Red to be even more ambitious with the IP, scaling up development and allocating additional resources on its sequel, “Project Orion.”
Meanwhile, CDPR is in “full-scale production” mode for The Witcher 4, with the developer showing off an impressive tech demo during an Unreal Engine 5 live stream in June.
