Payday 2, a title developed OVERKIL and acquired by Starbreeze Studios in 2016. As of the the decade old crime and heist co-op action fps game is still going pretty strong, despite a rocky start and puzzling approach by the team. The game see us as part of a heist gang, completing contracts scattered around the bullettin board, all featuring different type of heist as well as difficulties. Generally speaking the type of heist are divided into 2 big categories: Loud and stealth. Loud missions are simple gun and loot missions, which often require us defending and complete certain actions to create loot. We are also required to deliver those loot while defending from waves of police officers, all featuring different level of threat, with special units to look out for. Generally speaking these are most most rewarding money and exp wise. Stealth are as the name says stealth based missions, where we must complete objectives much like you would in a story mission game, without being caught. While there are missions which will shift into a loud mission if we get discovered, it's usually better sticking to a stealth approach, as certain collectible and customizable are obtain through stealth. While mission can be divided into multiple days, they also feature a randomized locations of certain objective making it also difficult and at times impossible to complete certain missions as some of the stuff we need will be missing coverting the stealth mission into a loud one (often forcing us to restart). Not to mention some objective are also more prone to be completed at higher difficulties, which obviously in turn make things quite dicey. The game features several classes, some unlocked by playing while other requiring DLCs packs, all having different playstyle and abilities which make them stand out more regarding the type of mission (loud or stealth). At our disposals we'll have a main weapon and secondary weapon, a hand-to-hand weapon, utilities grenades as well as extra utilities and an armor to absorb enemy hits (which regenerate after taking cover for a bit). All also influence the level of "visibility" we have with the lower it is the more the guards are unaware of us or take longer to discover us as some dangerous person (it only has a meaning in stealth mission), not to mention each weapon has its own threat level used to scare civilians and weaker cops, using them as exchange tokens in case a friend is taken down too many time (resulting in getting arrested, thus need a hostage exchange to bring him back). Back to how the game was a few years ago the skill level ceiling has gone up a lot, with a complete rework of the game difficulty exponentially increased, but the game is still quite fun to play, especially after reaching the first infamy level and being experienced enough to take on the more harder and more fun stealth missions, requiring careful planning and coordination between people, thus requiring to be player with friends. Te biggest downside of the game is probably the need to acquire the DLCs as the most powerful characters and especially weapons are locked behind them, often making the base game pretty barebone. So if it's up your alley, I'd suggest on getting the bundle packs, especially the legacy collection featuring most of the needed weapons as well the nicer maps.
Payday 2 is an adrenaline-fueled cooperative heist game that delivers an exhilarating and action-packed experience. As part of a team of skilled criminals, players undertake daring heists, from bank robberies to diamond heists, while dealing with intense police resistance. The game's cooperative gameplay is where it truly shines, as players must work together and communicate effectively to execute their plans successfully. Each member of the team can specialize in different roles, such as a mastermind, enforcer, technician, or ghost, bringing a unique set of skills to the table. Progression is rewarding, with experience points unlocking new skills, weapons, and equipment. This sense of progression keeps players engaged and motivated to tackle increasingly daring heists. Overall, Payday 2 delivers an intense and addictive cooperative heist experience. Whether playing with friends or with the game's AI-controlled characters, the thrill of pulling off the perfect heist never gets old.
Payday 2 is an adrenaline-fueled cooperative heist game that offers thrilling action and strategic gameplay. With its emphasis on teamwork and planning, players can execute elaborate robberies in various settings. The game's extensive weapon and skill customization options provide a sense of progression and personalization. However, the repetitive mission structure and occasional AI quirks can be a drawback. Despite that, Payday 2 delivers an immersive and intense heisting experience that keeps players coming back for more high-stakes action.
