Borderlands Fans Rejoice: The First Movie Trailer is Finally Here

It’s been a long time coming, but the first Borderlands movie has dropped its official trailer, which stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black as the voice of Claptrap.

Directed by Eli Roth, The Borderlands movie is “the first of the Borderlands Cinematic Universe” according to Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford, but is not Borderlands 1 or 2 and is instead its own entity that “gets deeper and expand a little bit” on the Borderlands world.

The film follows Lilith (Blanchett), a main character in the Borderlands games, who is an infamous outlaw that’s given a mission to find the missing daughter of Atlas on her return to her home planet of Pandora. With the help of other criminals like Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, and of course, Claptrap, she’ll discover a power capable of altering the fate of the entire universe.

By the looks of the official trailer, the filmmakers are staying true to the humor and energy of the games. To give you an idea of what to expect, Pitchford reportedly told Édgar Ramírez, who plays Deukalian Atlas, to “imagine that you’ve got a d*** made out of three machine guns” when shooting a particular scene.

We don’t have to wait long for Borderlands as it will release on August 9. If you’re not sure what to expect or haven’t played the games, think Guardians of the Galaxy, but with a lot more action, craziness, and OTT characters, then dial it up by 100 and you’re just about in the ballpark.
