Bolt Action: The Ultimate World War 2 Tabletop Game Announced for PC

Bolt Action is an award-winning tabletop game by Warlord Games, and FRAG Games is promising a “reimagined” experience in a “stunning, demanding digital theater of war” that brings its intense, legendary ruleset to PC.

Currently in development, the war game is slated for release in 2026 and will launch via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.

History & Gameplay Mechanics

Announced during the recent Sliterine Next 2025 event, Bolt Action is a turn-based strategy game built from the ground up to replicate the tension of the board game experience.

First published in 2012 and now in its third edition, the PC adaptation aims to recreate its strategic matches. Battles take place from the beaches of Normandy to the hedgerows of France, implementing core mechanics, such as Line of Sight, Pinning, and Morale.

Army Painter: No More ‘Pile of Shame’

If you’re like me and have boxes of gray, unpainted miniatures sitting around your room, then this is your chance for redemption. Bolt Action includes an “army painter” feature for a “personal touch.”

The army painter allows players to “customize squads, weapons, and vehicles,” providing an extra layer of personalization that will help bring armies to life and make players feel part of the battle.

Confirmed Modes

Bringing Bolt Action to PC, FRAG Games is implementing a dynamic single-player D-Day campaign that will “progress through connected missions with evolving objectives.”

Furthermore, players can test their strategic skills against others in competitive and ranked online matches. Additionally, the developer also promises replayable skirmish battles featuring randomized initiative and conditions to keep them fresh.

Can Bolt Action Succeed on PC?

Bridging the gap between traditional hobbying and PC gaming, Bolt Action will trade physical dice for a mouse when it launches for PC in 2026. Can the upcoming turn-based strategy replace the board game experience? Let us know in the comments.
