Apex Legends Will No Longer Be Playable on Nintendo Switch Starting Season 30
Apex Legends is shutting down on Nintendo Switch in August 2026, with Season 29 as the final update and future seasons moving to Switch 2.
Some unfortunate news has come to Nintendo Switch owners as Respawn Entertainment and EA officially announced that Apex Legends will be shutting down on Nintendo Switch this summer. Season 29 will be the last playable season on the said platform, with Season 30 continuing with Switch 2 only.
Respawn Shuts Down Apex Legends on Nintendo Switch
When Switch 2 was released, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before Switch (and other last-gen counterparts in other platforms) took a backseat. While it’s still widely used, with some players still preferring it over its successor, Respawn has taken its first step into bidding the console goodbye.
In an official statement, Apex Legends will no longer be available on Nintendo Switch starting August 4th, 2026, which marks the beginning of Season 30. Meaning, Season 29 is the last playable season of the game on Switch consoles. Future seasons will continue for Switch 2 only.
Respawn clarified that in-game currency is tied to individual EA accounts so any unused coins after the shutdown date are still in players’ accounts and can be accessed once an upgrade to Switch 2 is made. It is a bit of a bummer since this forces Apex players to upgrade which let’s face it, isn’t easy for everyone. Not everyone has $450 lying around the house.

The announcement sparked concern among PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, who feared they might be next. Respawn was quick to reassure fans, stating that there are currently no plans to discontinue Apex Legends on other platforms.
