Fairy Tail is an anime-themed turn-based JRPG based on the anime and manga of the same name, developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., following Natsu Dragneel, a dragonslayer belonging to the Fairy Tail mage’s guild, and his unique group of friends as they battle the series’ iconic enemies and events.
But to draw that Gensou Skydrift comparison again? This is a solid game no matter what. And I’m willing to bet that if you are a fan of Fairy Tail, you’re getting rewarded with a fun and solid RPG that keeps the spirit of the original and adds on more besides.
While Fairy Tail doesn’t do anything new, it does a lot of the common RPG elements well enough, and ties in the source material effectively as well. For fans of the series, this game is a no-brainer, for everyone else, it could be worth a try.
Fairy Tail surpasses expectations and provides a damn good JRPG experience. Its turn-based combat-focused gameplay is hardly revolutionary but should feel familiar for genre veterans. Even more so if you happen to enjoy the Atelier series. In saying that, some elements of the PC port are lackluster and the second-rate storytelling will leave many disappointed. Even so, this is an overall high-quality product that reaches heights most anime games can only dream of.
