It’s been 13 years since we first stepped onto Edward Kenway’s ship in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. Now, we get that chance all over again thanks to the new Black Flag Resynced, a remake so perfect that it somehow makes one of the best Assassin’s Creed games even better.

Black Flag Resynced feels like what Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag wanted to be, if only it weren’t limited by the hardware of the time. Black Flag remains a holy piece in my memory of gaming, and Resynced is doing that memory justice. It brought the game out in a format that suits what I’ve grown accustomed to over the 13 years since the original release, and it is giving me a mirror to show me that my rose-tinted glasses are actually clear.

Ultimately, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynched is a wildly successful reboot of a franchise favorite. Delivering more new content than I can readily list (as well as a new lick of paint!), it’s bound to make returning fans and fresh devotees as excited to set sail as we were more than a decade ago.
