Blizzard President Johanna Faries promises a historic 2026 for franchises like Warcraft and Diablo

Blizzard Entertainment is done staying quiet. After a turbulent period of layoffs and cancellations under Microsoft’s ownership, the studio is planting its flag for 2026.

According to President Johanna Faries, the company isn’t just aiming for a good year—they are targeting the single “biggest year ever” in Blizzard’s thirty-five-year history.

Blizzard’s “Biggest Year” Promise

In a recent interview with Variety, Faries didn’t mince words. She described the upcoming roadmap as “very exciting,” confirming that internal teams are mobilizing for massive initiatives across all major franchises.

we just have a tremendous amount of pride in what’s going to come forward,” Faries stated. The goal is to modernize their iconic portfolio while respecting the legacy that built the company. This isn’t just about maintenance; it is about aggressively expanding for the next decade.

WoW and Diablo: The 2026 Calendar

Faries’ confidence rests on a concrete schedule. We already have locked dates for two titans of the industry, ensuring the first half of the year dominates the RPG space:

  • March 3, 2026: World of Warcraft launches its major expansion, Midnight.
  • April 28, 2026: Diablo 4 expands with Lord of Hatred.

Adding to the momentum, Overwatch turns ten on May 24. While no specific game has been announced, Faries hinted that the team is preparing something significant to mark the decade milestone.

The StarCraft Resurgence Rumors

The most intriguing detail for veterans involves the RTS giant, StarCraft. Invitations for BlizzCon 2026 included a coaster featuring four franchise icons. StarCraft was one of them.

This aligns with persistent industry reports. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently mentioned a StarCraft shooter in incubation. Meanwhile, leaks suggest a partnership with Nexon and potential AA titles developed by former King employees. If Blizzard is truly investing across its “entire portfolio” as Faries claims, a StarCraft revival is the logical next step.

BlizzCon 2026 Returns

After a two-year hiatus, the physical BlizzCon event returns on September 12, 2026.

Blizzard states the break allowed employees to focus on development rather than showmanship. Now, they are ready to reveal the results. The company has already promised “major announcements and reveals” for the September showcase.

Verdict: Is Blizzard’s 2026 Lineup Worth It?

Blizzard has a history of high promises, but the 2026 lineup offers tangible proof. With two massive expansions locked for spring and a major convention in the fall, the content pipeline is undeniably full. For gamers, this means it is time to prepare the budget. 2026 will be expensive for Blizzard fans, but the “Smart Shopper” approach—grabbing base games and subscriptions on sale now—will soften the blow when these blockbusters land.

Do you think Blizzard can recapture its golden era under Microsoft’s leadership?
