Shantae is the famous adventure platformer game series from Wayforward. The American indie development team founded in 1990, with the series debuting in 2002 on Game Boy Color. A series that takes us to the colorful world of Sequin Land, following the adventures of the young half-genie, Shantae.
A debut title that, despite low sales, saw a huge surge in interest with the series’ return in 2010 with Risky’s Revenge. Leading to a total of 6 installments, with the latest being Risky Revolution. A title originally planned for Game Boy Advance but canceled in 2004. And which was brought back to life on August 19, 2025, complete with a limited cartridge run on GBA.

What we know so far about Shantae’s new platformer adventure
Fantastic news for fans of the series. So, we have the first confirmation of the development of the seventh new platformer adventure for the famous half-genie. However, Matt confirms he doesn’t have much to share about it yet. But he left the message with a first artwork of the protagonist Shantae and the antagonist and pirate Risky Boots.
Specifically, a decidedly more updated design for Risky, who, at least in this artwork, appears without her hat and with a new hairstyle. This is also the first new installment since The Seven Sirens, which was released in 2020. With Risky Revolution being a rerelease of the lost chapter on GBA. The announcement also comes just a few days before the 11th Anniversary of Pirate’s Curse.
Shiver me timbers! It’s been 11 years since the launch of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on Nintendo 3DS, back in 2014! Happy anniversary to this swashbuckling, fan-favorite, high-seas adventure! pic.twitter.com/7muJm9xwzI
