The Day Before, the long-anticipated open-world survival MMO, only just released four days ago, and already its developer, Fntastic has announced the studio’s closure. The Fntastic shutdown means The Day Before will likely not face any more patches or updates.
Once the most wishlisted game on Steam, many bought a The Day Before game key, hoping to jump into a new survival MMO that would compete with DayZ and Rust.
Instead, those who bought a game key will wonder what happens next after the developer announced its closure on X.
The post mentions they spent all their efforts and resources in The Day Before, but they no longer have the funding to develop or patch the game further.
As for what happens next. Fntastic said they are unsure about the future of The Day Before and Propnight.
Since its release last week, The Day Before has been hit hard with the reviews, with the game sitting on “Overwhelmingly Negative” on Steam.
Upon its launch, The Day Before reached a concurrent player count of 38,000 and a Twitch viewer count of 496,000. But as the negative reviews poured in, Fntastic chose to stay quiet until now.
In fact, today’s announcement has seen the Rust and DayZ developers post on X, seemingly trolling Fntastic. The Rust developers simply copied and pasted the DayZ post but used a red marker to change particular words.
