More Ambitious Than Starfield? Star Citizen Is Free to Play on PC Right Now
Star Citizen is an ambitious space RPG that has been in development for more than ten years. The game is now free to play on PC for a few days, giving you the chance to try this sci fi adventure and see if it is something for you.
What is Star Citizen?
Star Citizen has been in development for many years and is still being worked on. The game sparks dreams and fascination among sci fi fans thanks to its incredible scale. It is free on PC for a short period until December 3, 2025. The game is developed by Cloud Imperium Games and is often compared to Mass Effect or Starfield, even though it takes a very different direction. You will find hundreds of ships, entire planets to explore and breathtaking realism. Through crowdfunding, the game has already raised almost 900 million dollars.
Try Star Citizen for free
As mentioned before, Star Citizen is free until December 3. Normally you need a starter pack to be able to play. These packs range from 46 to almost 1,200 euros. They include different ships and other content, but because of the wide price range, they create a big entry barrier for newcomers.
Right now, the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo is taking place in the game. You can test almost 200 available ships and find out which one you might want as your starter ship. On Saturday, November 29, the four finalist ships from the community competition “Ship Showdown” will also be available to test for free.
To take part in this free version of Star Citizen, you simply have to download the official Star Citizen launcher from their website. However, you will need a fairly powerful PC to play the game. Since the game is still in an alpha phase, not everything is perfect yet, and there are some bugs and high hardware requirements.
Is the free week worth it?
Even though Star Citizen is still in an alpha version, the game has a lot to offer after so many years of development. You can expect trading, space battles, planetary exploration, missions, RPG elements and much more. All of this takes place in a world shared by thousands of players. If you enjoy the galactic atmosphere in Starfield or if you were fascinated by interstellar stories like Mass Effect, you should definitely try Star Citizen for free.
