Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Releasing Three New Characters for Free
Kart racing fans, start your engines, because three new Sega characters are coming to Sonic Racing: Crossworlds over the next three months for free. The first is NiGHTS from the Sega Saturn Nights into Dreams game, in December.
Revealed during the recent PlayStation State of Play Japan, the three new characters will be available to everyone for free as Sega and Sonic Team look to inject fresh life into Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
The three characters come from Sega’s back catalogue, delighting older and younger fans alike, as the game attempts to encourage returning players in a packed post-launch roadmap.
NiGHTS, AiAi, and Tanglwe & Whisper: The Free Characters
Beginning next month, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will get new free characters, starting with NiGHTS from the classic Nights into Dreams Sega Saturn 1996 game. NiGHTS comes with the stylish Dream Sleeper vehicle.
Heading into January, players can expect to see AiAi and his Banana Cruiser, before Tanglwe and Whisper from the spin-off Sonic the Hedgehog comic series in 2019 join as a duo in March 2026.
Post-Launch Roadmap: SpongeBob Next
While Sonic Team is preparing to reward players with free content, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is continuing its post-launch roadmap plans, with SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star launching next week on November 19 with a Bikini Bottom-themed course, new music, new emotes, and the Patty Wagon vehicle.
The SpongeBob DLC follows the recent Minecraft DLC pack, which introduced the new Minecraft World track, Minecart vehicle, several new music tracks, and added Steve, Alex, and Creeper as playable characters.
Unique Stats and Gameplay Impact of the Growing Roster
Every new racer that comes to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has unique stats that synergize with certain vehicles for extra performance, and each new character, free or paid, will offer a learning curve that requires experimentation.
