Scarface: The World Is Yours Re-release Was Too Good to Be True

The PC re-release of Scarface The World Is Your was short-lived as the listing is now removed from Steam and Epic after fraud claims.

Scarface The World Is Yours Scam

Gamers were over the moon yesterday as Scarface The World Is Yours unexpectedly showed up on Epic Games Store available for purchase. Not long after, its Steam page was up with an update from EC Digital that a re-release is in the works and that they’ve accidentally pushed the game live on Epic.

After its reemergence went viral, the whole story fell apart and from the looks of it, everything was a scam.

From Hype to Hoax: Scarface The World Is Your Fraudulent Re-release

Well, that was a whirlwind to say the least. Let’s go over the first chain of events. Scarface The World Is Yours appeared on Epic Games Store available for purchase. The fans got excited but were skeptical, then the Steam page went up.

The listed publisher, EC Digital, posted on its Steam page that the re-release is happening but have accidentally pushed the Epic version live earlier than intended. The graphics were enhanced and they were upfront with using AI assistance, which made them more credible sounding.

Like everyone, people started looking up EC Digital which didn’t really amount to anything, initially. But since an update was posted, and both Epic and Steam pages are live, many believed it. But not for the people “in the know.”

Game dev and modder CookiePLMonster, known on X as Silent, knew there was something fishy from the beginning. Not only does he know that the holder of the Scarface license wasn’t willing to re-release the game, but also this version contains SilentPatch and Fusion Fix which he is involved with.

As his investigation goes further, he found out that even the movie IP holders were unaware of the re-release. On top of that, Mafia Game Studios posted on X, that EC Digital was already dissolved in October 2019.

It doesn’t end there. Timothy L replied on X that the publisher in question also stole Bewilder House, a free-to-play game he worked on, and put it up for sale on Steam and Epic Games Store. That too went viral for a bit.

In both instances, the fake game pages were removed. But before it did for Scarface, the “EC Digital” team posted that they will temporarily hide the game page as they go through ongoing licensing and technical matters. They’ve apologized for the confusion it created, sounding that the re-release happened incorrectly but was “real.”

Of course people weren’t just going to let it go that easily. Turned out, EC Digital is listed as AIKUN, a Chinese company, on Epic Games Store and has Gmail as an email address. With everything put together, this launch was not real and was just an elaborate scam. Plus, this isn’t the first rodeo for the team pretending to be EC Digital

If the listing didn’t go viral, who knows how many they would have scammed. As of writing, no reports were made yet about refunds on the Epic Game Store listing.
