Red Dead Redemption 2: Next-Gen Version according to Leaks in the Works

With Rockstar’s official announcement in February 2022 of GTA VI being worked on. It’s fair to assume that the main team will focus on it, while other developers releasing games for them. An example is Max Payne 1&2 Remakes being worked on by Remedy Entertainment.

It’s not unlikely though that Rockstar may release Remasters or updated versions in the meanwhile. Like the recent Red Dead Redemption port released August 17 exclusively on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

What we know

According to recent leaks of Game Pass pricing deals, a voice mentioning T2/RDR2 was expected to release in Q2 of 2023, as well as mentioning them coming to 9th Gen consoles, the current Xbox Series X/S and PS5.Though Quarter 2 of this year has long gone, these are just theoretical release windows.

Rockstar doesn’t want to risk another backlash from the community over the recent Remastered. So it’s not far-fetched that they want to take their time and release this new version properly. Especially with GTA The Trilogy The Definitive Edition being mishandled by an inexperienced developer who worked mostly on porting for mobile OS. Or the recent Red Dead Redemption being a simple port with the biggest issue being the limited availability as well as the price-tag.

Advantages of a Next Gen version

Being released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption II released on 8th Gen Consoles, thus Xbox One and PS4, and only 1 year after on PC. Coming close to 5 years since release, we not only got a newer generation of consoles, much faster and relatively competitive to the average pc of 2023, but got many new techs to take advantage of.

While definitely still keeping up on a visual level, the popularization of Ray Tracing just like it happened with GTA V version of PS5 and Xbox Series would work immensely for RDR2 landscapes. And combined with upscaling techniques it wouldn’t be too far of expecting an upscaled 4K experience even on consoles at 30fps with the most taxing features. Along with more detailed textures, a few QoL improvements and maybe some nice extras like new interesting quests. Or a full blown expansion like the original Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.

Just like this example by Digital Dreams , with the use of Vestigia Mod, Ray Tracing Reshade and several other mods on PC, with a powerful rig.
